Community Services

What Is Community Services?

Burbank Housing residents are members of their housing community. Through our Community Services Program, we ensure that residents receive a variety of beneficial services, as well as assist with helping create activities that bring neighbors together. Some examples of services and activities include:

  • After-school homework programs
  • Blood pressure clinics
  • Boys & Girls Club programs
  • Circle of Sisters support groups
  • Community gardens
  • Dental and medical mobile services
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
  • Food distribution
  • Girl Scouts
  • Holiday celebrations
  • Homeownership seminars
  • Information and referral
  • Medical and insurance information
  • Movie nights
  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Nutritional services
  • Parenting classes
  • Potlucks
  • Safety awareness classes
  • Summer lunch program

There are many opportunities throughout the year for residents to become involved in activities. The Services Coordinators are available to assist residents in putting together an activity or to begin a support group, for example.

Many of our properties have large community rooms available for residents to use for their own events. Most have kitchens and are often used for birthday parties, quinceaneras, and other celebrations. These rooms are often available to organizations from the surrounding community.

Staff

The community services staff is responsible for ensuring that Burbank Housing residents receive beneficial site-specific services, and that the organization is meeting funding and regulatory requirements of service provision. A team of services coordinators work together to:

  • Identify residents' needs and interests
  • Find appropriate service providers from throughout the community
  • Develop agreements with other organizations
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with service providers
  • Evaluate the residents' continued need and/or interest in services

Our Partners in Success

The majority of services available to our residents are provided by many social service agencies and nonprofit organizations – “Community Service Organizations” – established throughout our community. The Community Services Program depends on the expertise of these organizations to provide the best of what is available at our properties. We could not be successful without the help of our many partners, including:

We provide organizations with access to our community rooms, including kitchen use and locked storage. Use of our space is free of charge. We welcome providers to serve not only Burbank Housing residents, but also members of the surrounding communities.

New Service Providers

The Burbank Housing Community Services Program is always open to adding new service providers. If you are interested in working with us, please contact Aliza Gomes at 575-7654, or by email to gomes@burbankhousing.org
